After attending school in northern California, Joe Wiley began his successful career in the trades by joining the Public Works Division for the City of Alameda, CA, in 1997. Having an affinity for math and a strong desire to grow professionally, Joe joined the Traffic Signal Department, where he thrived. He attained traffic signal and roadway lighting certifications within four years through the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA). Other skills developed at the City of Alameda were commercial and industrial electrical and pump station installations and maintenance. In the fall of 2001, Joe was hired as a lineworker apprentice with Alameda’s local municipality, Alameda Municipal Power, where he completed two indentured outside lineman apprenticeships concurrently (PG&E & NJATC). Joe attained journey-level lineworker status in 2004. He maintained, operated, and constructed overhead and underground power lines and facilities as an apprentice, lineworker, crew lead, and troubleman.
In 2018, Joe joined Northwest Lineman College (NLC) as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for their newly formed Department of Education. Additional roles and duties at NLC included Editor in Chief for Alexander Publications, Skills Advisor for the Dept. of Education, and Mobile Trainer for Utility Training Services. Joe is a life-long learner and instructor passionate about training those entering the trades.
Joe also been awarded a Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University.
